Connecting Classrooms: Introduce Yourself

Activity One

Connecting Classrooms is a free program that connects classrooms in the U.S., Spain and France for a virtual exchange in which students share videos/media with their partner school.

For the first activity, your students will create a video introducing themselves to the students at their partner school, who are eager to get to know them!

Suggested topics:

Option 1: Tell us about you, your family and your friends

  • Describe your personality. (e.g., shy, friendly, etc.)
  • Do you play any musical instruments?
  • Do you play any sports?
  • What is your favorite food?
  • What do you and your friends like to do on the weekends?
  • What causes inspire you? Do you volunteer anywhere?
  • What are your hobbies? Do you like to read, play videogames, or go to the movies?
  • Do you have any brothers or sisters? What are their ages and names?
  • Do you have any pets? If yes, What types of pets do you have and what are their names?
  • Share a unique characteristic or funny story about you, a family member, or friend.
  • Tell us about a special talent or skill that you, a family member, or a friend has.

Option 2: Share some fun, interesting facts about your past.

  • Share one of your favorite memories from your childhood.
  • Tell us about a favorite movie, book, song or podcast, and how it has impacted your life.
  • Tell us about your favorite trip or adventure. Where did you go and what did you do?
  • Tell us about a summer that stands out to you because of something that happened to you, something you did, or someone you met.
  • What is something funny or embarrassing that has happened to you in the past?
  • Share one of your favorite memories from your childhood.

Option 3: Finish some of the following sentences about your dreams and wishes. Be sure to explain your choice or reasoning.

  • If I could have one superpower, I would choose …
  • If I could visit anywhere in the world, I would go to …
  • If I won the lottery, the first thing I’d buy would be …
  • If I could keep any animal as a pet, I would choose…
  • My dream home would have… 
  • If I had to move to a different country, I would choose … 
  • Something I would love to get rich by doing full-time is … (If you were assured of earning more than enough, no matter what you did full-time, what would you do? Why would you do it and how would your life change?). 
  • I would love to meet and even have lunch with … (Name a public figure whom you’d love to have a conversation with).  

Additional activities:

  • Bingo (only for Option 1): Answer the questions in the bingo boxes using the introduction videos from your partner school. Complete 5 consecutive squares diagonally, across or vertically to win. 
  • Video worksheet: Watch the videos of the students from your partner school and write down the information that you learned.

  • Introduce yourself amd the purpose of the video, e.g., “Today we will tell you/show you…”
  • Presentation & discussion of topic
  • Ending – What questions do you have for your peers abroad and how can they ask you questions?

Video length: 3-4 minutes

Audience: Students at your partner school who are curious about daily school life and the education system in your country.[/vc_column_text]
